There is a lot of hype these days around olympic weightlifting. For the Clean, the front rack position is a common limiter for those new to front squatting and olympic lifting. There are a ton of lat stretches you can do to help you get warm and increase mobility. We recommend grabbing a kettlebell before your warm up or working sets and hold the kettlebell in front of your face with your elbows pretty close while in a squat. From here, you can raise the KB overhead a few times. Think about your position at the top of a swing and try to match it. They key here is to only go as far as your good form will allow. Don’t collapse your squat or lose your position to try and get the kettlebell in the overhead position. Do this for a few sets of 5-8 and let us know what you think! Are your movements and technique purposeful or are you simply going through the motions?

The first thing we tell our athletes when they are about to perform ANY lift or movement is to visualize how the set it SUPPOSED to look and feel. We recommend that you try to capture as many details as possible: such as; how does the bar feel in your hands, how does the grip feel, how will you set up, how will it feel to move the bar from point A to point B. This is a skill that improves overtime and you have to force yourself into the habit of analyzing the lift or movement before you approach the weight or machine. Always try and have a cue in mind such as setting your shoulders back or squeezing your glutes, etc. This will help improve your performance and gain proficiency in a specific movement, quickly.
