December 7th, 1941, the world watched ships and crews in Pearl Harbor perish by the surprise attack of the Japanese. This enitial attack set the stage for the United States to enter WW2. Today, we honor those who lost their lives and fought to defend our freedom in the bay of Pearl Harbor. God bless these United States and God bless all who served and are continuing to serve.

In this image, the USS New Jersey can be seen firing her 3, 16 inch main guns from both her port and starboard sides. While she served, she was able to attain 19 battle stars, which was the most out of her sister ships, and she is considered the most decorated battleship in the United States Navy to date.

Laid down in October of 1937, the USS North Carolina was built and constructed in Brooklyn, New York. After 16 years of no New battleships being built, the Navy made the North Carolina the first to be built after that time period.

The USS Texas was commissioned in the year 1914 and served till 1948. The Texas was one of the first ships in the Navy to have anti-aircraft guns mounted on her deck. During her commissioning, she served in both World Wars and earned a total of 5 battle stars for her service. After her commissioning, she was turned into a memorial ship in her home state of Houston, Texas.

The USS California was the second ship to be built for the Tennessee-class of battleships. The California was mounted with 12, 14 inch guns separated into four gun turrets. After her repairs from the attack of Pearl Harbor, she resumed her service in 1944 after being put back afloat.

The United States Navy created three new aircraft carriers in the new class, Yorktown-class, for WW2. This photo features the USS Enterprise, which was also known as "The Big E", and served until 1947. The Enterprise is known for many achievements during her career, which included earning 20 battle stars, the most of any ship in the U.S. Navy.

During her career, the USS South Dakota saw alot of action during the Guadalcanal campaign and even took part in the Battle of Santa Cruz. In 1945, at the end of the war, the USS South Dakota returned to the U.S. and moved into the reserve fleet until 1962.

Named after the 48th state of the U.S., the USS Arizona was one of two super-dreadnought battleships built in 1914. Commisioned in 1916, the Arizona served until December of 1941 when she was sunk in the bay of Pearl Harbor.

Back in 1910, the design of the 14 inch guns for battleships was first brought about by the U.S. Navy. The first ships that had these type of guns were the USS Texas and USS New York. After Operation Torch, the USS New York was turned into a training ship for navy sailors.

Alaska-class cruisers have been classified by many titles, but the USS Alaska was classified as a large cruiser. There were a total of 6 Alaska-class cruisers that were meant to be built for the U.S. Navy, but only two were completed, (USS Alaska and USS Guam)

In the 1930s, the United States was managing to find ways to make bigger and more powerful weponds for ships and land vehicle's. The USS New Jersey is a prime example of that. Her main armament consisted of 9 × 16 in. 50 cal. Mark 7 guns. Due to the amount of weponds the Iowa-class battleships had, they are considered to be the most heavily armed battleships in the U.S. Navy.
