One of the greatest lies ever told is that burlesque has to be serious. Sure, burlesque can be glamorous. It can be sexy. It can be political. It can be emotional.

But it can also be absolutely ridiculous.

Some of the most memorable acts we've ever seen involved unexpected punchlines, absurd characters, visual gags, questionable life choices, and audiences laughing so hard they nearly forgot someone was actively taking their clothes off.

At its heart, burlesque is live entertainment. It's storytelling. It's surprise. It's connection. And comedy has always been one of the tools performers use to get there.

As we move through a month packed with all manner of delightful weirdness, we're reminded that art doesn't have to fit neatly into a box to be meaningful.
Sometimes art makes you cry.
Sometimes art makes you think.
Sometimes art makes you laugh so hard you snort beer through your nose.
Frankly, we recommend experiencing all three.
