Congratulations on beginning the next part of your journey, Savannah, Joshua, Tanner, and Ella!

On June 19, 1865, over two years after the Emancipation Proclamation, freedom reached the last enslaved people in the U.S. when Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas. Over 250,000 enslaved individuals were declared free that day, marking the moment we now honor as Juneteenth.
