When the wind picks up, the last thing you should worry about is your coverage. In the finale of our Hurricane Prep series, we’re looking at the tools that work when the storm hits.

Three essentials for Hawaii businesses:

1. Commercial Property Insurance: Your foundation for physical repairs, equipment, and inventory.

2. Business Interruption Insurance: If you have to close, this covers lost income, rent, and payroll while you recover.

3. Parametric Insurance: The fast option. It pays out automatically based on storm intensity or location, providing quick cash for immediate needs like debris removal.

Every business is unique. We’re here to help you find the right mix for your spot on the islands before the next storm arrives.

Stay safe, Hawaii.

Episode 2: Protect Your Assets. 🏝️

Your business is more than just a building: it’s the equipment, inventory, and hard work you’ve put in. During hurricane season, being proactive is the best way to safeguard what you’ve built.

Start by securing anything outdoors. In our islands, loose items can quickly become hazards in high winds. Whether it’s farm gear or storefront displays, get them tied down or tucked away.

Next, grab your phone and do a walkthrough. Take photos or videos of all your equipment and inventory. Having a digital record makes the insurance process much simpler if you ever need to file a claim.

Lastly, check your policy details. Do you have coverage for business interruptions? Does your insurance reflect the current value of your assets?

Stay safe and stay prepared, Hawaii. 🤙

Hurricane season is here, and 2026 is looking busy.

Episode 1: Know Your Risk.

With an above-normal forecast of 5 to 13 tropical cyclones expected this year, understanding the impact of El Niño is the first step for Hawaii business owners.

While the season spans from June to November, activity usually peaks in August and September. Don’t wait until a storm is on the horizon to start your assessment. Take a walk around your property this week to identify potential vulnerabilities like loose roofing, clogged gutters, or overhanging branches.

Preparing early isn't about panicking: it’s about protecting what you’ve built so you can focus on your business and your community when it matters most.

Stay tuned for Episode 2 this Wednesday, where we’ll dive into physical property protection.

Benjamin Franklin was more than just a founding father; he was the architect of American insurance.

In 1752: decades before he signed the Declaration of Independence: Franklin founded The Philadelphia Contributionship, the first fire insurance company in the colonies. He championed a “Hand-in-Hand” philosophy, where neighbors protected one another through a shared fund.

Members placed lead "fire marks" on their buildings to signal they were part of this community-driven safety net. This legacy of mutual aid is still at the heart of what we do at Adams & Associates today.

As we approach the 250th anniversary of American independence this July 4th, we’re reflecting on that original spirit of community. From local non-profits to the farmers and businesses that keep Hawaii moving, we’re here to ensure that same protection stands the test of time.

The Philadelphia Contributionship is still in business today, proving that when a community looks out for its own, the protection lasts for centuries.
