Update on our little girl with calicivirus. 🖤🐝🖤

Introducing Bumblebee 🐝

It's the name I kept coming back to. For hours and hours, as I've syringe fed this baby in the basement quarantine zone, I look out the window and see the bee balm in my garden, loaded with happy little bees. I felt like it fits her sweet and fluffy nature very well 🖤

We are doing... okay. Yesterday was pretty rough, I did 5 syringe feedings which take me at least half an hour and usually closer to a full hour. I also nebulized her and did subcutaneous fluids, plus pain meds and the lidocaine mouthwash. Then after a few hours of sleep, I got up to do it again (then took a nap...). She still hasn't eaten on her own at all. I just applied some appetite stimulant to see if that can coax her into eating.

I think if she isn't eating a little on her own by tonight, I'll be calling the vet to see about a temporary feeding tube which in the end I think would make feedings take much less time, and also I wouldn't be messing with her mouth. The level of intensive care she's requiring at home has left me exhausted. Hoping she turns the corner today. She peed yesterday (on her bed, little stinker) but hasn't pooped yet or peed today. She also let me clean up her face of most of the crusties with a wet washcloth so visually, I think she has improved a bit 😁

Through all of this handling and sticking a syringe into her mouth a hundred times a day, she is extremely sweet which I thank my lucky stars for because if she weren't, I wouldn't be able to do this. She purrs and purrs, makes biscuits, and rubs herself against me in the downtime between each milliliter of food.

Thank you everyone who has supported us and her journey so far with donations of supplies and money for vet bills, plus thank you to those who have offered advice and suggestions on ways to help her. I'm so glad for all the support. I'll keep you all posted 🖤 please keep sending good vibes for me and Bumblebee
