Panleuk is killing!! Please Please Please vaccinate!!

WARNING: A dangerous outbreak of Panleukopenia (Panleuk) is affecting cats across Central Florida. This highly contagious and often deadly virus attacks a catโ€™s immune system and spreads quickly, especially among kittens and unvaccinated cats.

Common symptoms include:
๐Ÿพ Vomiting
๐Ÿพ Diarrhea
๐Ÿพ Loss of appetite
๐Ÿพ Fever
๐Ÿพ Extreme lethargy
๐Ÿพ Dehydration

Panleuk can survive in the environment for months and spreads through contact with infected cats, surfaces, bedding, food bowls, and even shoes or clothing.

The best protection is VACCINATION. Vaccinating your cats โ€” even indoor cats โ€” can save their lives and help stop the spread of this devastating disease. If your cat is not up to date, contact your veterinarian or reach out to SPCA Florida Veterinary Clinic as soon as possible.

Please help protect our community cats, shelter cats, and your own furry family members. ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿฑ

๐Ÿพ โ€œBut I donโ€™t wanna go to the vet!โ€ ๐Ÿพ

Late last night, Animal Services called us about Daisy and her siblings. At only 4 weeks old, these babies arrived covered in fleas and already anemic. The shelter staff did an amazing job bathing them, giving Capstar, and starting their vaccines.

Daisyโ€™s eyes were swollen shut. Terramycin helped, but we wanted to be safe, so off to the vet she went today. ๐Ÿ’œ

The good news? Daisy is now with a special foster, along with her brother for company, where theyโ€™ll receive lots of love and care while they heal.

These babies were likely separated from their mom far too earlyโ€”they spend their days looking for comfort and trying to suckle. Thankfully, theyโ€™re now safe, loved, and on the road to recovery.

๐Ÿ’œ Welcome Hope ๐Ÿ’™

Hopeโ€™s story began in the most heartbreaking way. She was found in a trench, desperately trying to survive, eating from a dead dog carcass. She was scared, skittish, covered in dirt and fleas โ€” so gray from everything she had endured that you could barely see the dog underneath.

But even through her fear, Hope allowed herself to be saved.

When her rescuer approached, Hope didnโ€™t run. She squatted down and allowed herself to be picked up and carried to safety. In that moment, maybe for the first time, she finally knew what love felt like.

Her finder cared deeply for her, but with five wonderful dogs of her own and the reality of vet costs and limitations, she spent two weeks searching for a rescue to help. When we heard Hopeโ€™s story, we said yes.

Soon after, we learned Hope was pregnant.

This sweet baby is only about a year old โ€” possibly barely through her first heat cycle โ€” and already she was being asked to become a mother. Thankfully, Hope is now with a knowledgeable foster mom experienced in whelping.

While her foster mom was rubbing her belly, Hope began to whine. At first, she thought Hope needed to go outside, but then Hope yelped โ€” and her first baby was born.

Her foster said this was the first whelping she has experienced where the mama cried or yelped with every birth. But Hope was brave, and thankfully everything went well. She delivered eight beautiful babies. ๐Ÿพ

Right now is a crucial time for Hope and her puppies. We are praying she can care for them, feed them, and stay calm without becoming overwhelmed. She is very protective of her little family, so her foster has moved her into a quiet room where she can feel safe and secure.

Even with all she has been through, Hope allows her foster mom to care for her babies, weigh them, and check on them.

Hopeโ€™s name could not be more perfect.

She survived.
She trusted.
She became a mother.
And now, she has a chance.

Please keep Hope and her eight babies in your prayers as they begin this next chapter surrounded by love, safety, and care.
