My husband and I used to go on a bike ride together every morning.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It was fun, but something annoying kept happening.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When we turned around and headed for home, my husband was like a horse headed for the barn.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
He would pedal as fast as he could to make it through the stoplight before it turned red.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
He would make it through in the nick of time and leave me in the dust, sitting at the red light.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I would watch his back getting smaller and smaller in the distance.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And I would fume.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Why would he “leave me for dead” on the street?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Was he a jerk? Or was I being dramatic?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Yes.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
He was a jerk AND I was being dramatic.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I was reacting that way because I thought I couldn’t change it.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The truth is that sometimes husbands are jerks.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The truth ALSO is that husbands are heroes.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In fact, EVERY human is a hero.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But sometimes husbands have their hero switch in the “off” position.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Wives who have the skill of “flipping the switch” are wives who have heroic husbands.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
At the time, I was a woman who didn’t have this skill.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But now I know better.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The skill of inviting your husband to be heroic is a skill that every woman needs.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
There is a specific way to do it that gets him OUT of being a jerk and INTO being a hero.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When you can do this, you are a powerful woman.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
