If your kitchen has soffits, pause before you set a budget.

Soffits aren’t just decorative.

They’re often hiding ductwork, plumbing, wiring, or framing that was never meant to be touched.

That’s why removing them is rarely “just drywall.”
It’s repair work, rerouting, and decisions you didn’t plan for.

We see this a lot in older Dayton-area homes—especially kitchens built in the 80s and 90s.

Rule of thumb:

If you’re taking soffits down in an older home, plan for a contingency and a Plan B.
