Scurlock was actually working on developing inflatable covers for tennis courts when he noticed his employees enjoyed jumping on the inflatable surfaces.

This observation led to the development of what would become the modern bounce house. Initially, these inflatable structures were used in hospitals to help patients with respiratory issues by allowing them to bounce and clear their lungs. It wasn't until the 1960s that Scurlock and his wife Frances began marketing these inflatables for recreational use, transforming them into the popular party rental item we know today.
