The FEMA independent study portal is no longer hosting IS-100 and IS-700 — leaving many organizations scrambling to onboard and credential volunteers before the next disaster.
How is your organization handling the gap? Have you found workarounds, built your own materials, or adjusted your requirements?

'These Deaths Are on Trump's Hands': Texas Flooding Spotlights Assault on Climate Science | Common Dreams 07/08/2025

We have been trying to put into words how devastating it is to see the events unfold this past week. It’s been difficult, to say the least. But here goes…

Disasters are becoming increasingly common. Being prepared for a disaster emergency -- whether that's within your community, your home, an RV park, or a campground -- can only go so far. Understanding disaster preparedness, having a plan, and knowing what to do all depend on clear, accurate, and early warnings. And with the necessary precautions in place, with the early warning signs, this could have been avoided. It is both sad and scary to witness, because it could happen to any of us.

🚨Was this predictable? Yes. And more should have been done. Dependable national resources (the U.S. National Weather Service (NWS) and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), for starters) are put in place to track and warn communities of imminent weather events – to help save lives!

What happened? Mass firings, budget cuts, and years of neglect left key roles at these resources vacant, adding to the insurmountable stress and inevitable failure of a system meant to protect communities.

Make no mistake: If we do not act, a tragedy like this will happen again.

📢 What can you do? Speak up.
Contact your members of Congress today and tell them to
restore FEMA and the National Weather Service fully and immediately
Call. Write. Be heard: Our communities, our pets, and our future are worth it.

Our hearts are with the victims and families.

'These Deaths Are on Trump's Hands': Texas Flooding Spotlights Assault on Climate Science | Common Dreams "The Trump regime is gutting scientific research into climate and atmospheric science for political reasons, at the very time we need a much better understanding of it," said one environmentalist. "This is so reckless and dangerous."
