This is a custom order for kitchen knives that we are working on. This album depicts the quenching of several of the blades (8 total). The quench is when we are hardening the metal so that it retains a proper edge.
After this we will be working on the handles and polishing the blades!

Visited the forge today and quenched a bunch of knives that I have been working on with Jayce Vandervelde. This group of knives is almost finished!!! Just have to grind and polish them...easier said than done. Later, Nathan Tullos and I worked on a pair of twin swords (which I do not need to explain how big of an undertaking this is) from a singe piece of 18-wheeler leaf spring! He documented the progress and posted them to his timeline which I have now shared.
Just to update everyone...I have been working on my own version of a treadle hammer (the name junk-yard-hammer would probably be more accurate) as well as getting some blueprints for a new grinder that I plan on building with a friend. The treadle hammer allows me to use a foot pedal to operate a large 60-80 pound hammer!
I plan on getting some more knives pounded out pretty soon.
