CAN WE REUSE LENSES IN NEW FRAMES????
We’ve all been there: dropping and breaking frames while the lenses stay intact.
This may be inconvenient since you may be without vision correction until you can get your eyewear repaired. And in some situations, you might have to get creative with some heavy-duty tape until you can make it over to our office @

Once you arrive, you might be wondering, ‘Can you reuse lenses in new frames?’ After all, if your lenses are still in good condition, it may seem natural to use them again.
Can you reuse lenses in new frames?
In general, we recommend getting a new pair of glasses instead of reusing old lenses to ensure you have the best-fitting eyewear, but there are times when it’s okay to utilize your current lenses. Whether you can reuse lenses in new frames depends on a few things, such as:
If the new frames are the same model and style as the old frames
If you have any prescription limitations
If your lenses have been damaged at all
In some cases, lenses can be cut to fit another style of frames, but the frames will need to be a smaller size than that of the broken frames. Also, if you’re in a hurry, and your existing frames aren’t available that day, we try to find another set of frames that would work for your existing lenses.

You might not always need to replace your frames if the damage isn’t severe.
Sometimes, you may just need an adjustment or screw replacement, and Eyeglass Store of OC offers both of those services for free (even if you’re not a current customer).
If you end up needing a replacement, we can take care of that for you.
So can you put old lenses in new frames?
You can put old lenses in new frames in most cases, as long as the new frames are the same ones you used to have. We would first have to make sure your prescription doesn’t restrict the type of eyewear you use so that you don’t have issues down the line. We’ll also check to see if your lenses aren’t chipped or scratched before swapping them out.

With C19 still affecting many businesses along with other factors, please be patient with our employees, others in the service industry.
Many of our vendors are running on 40% manpower causing unexpected and unwanted delays.
It is most important that we get things done right the first time in order to avoid unnecessary wait times and making technicians rush only adds to human errors.
Thank you so much for being patient
What are cataracts?
A cataract is a cloudy area in the lens of your eye.
Cataracts are very common as you get older. In fact, more than half of all Americans age 80 or older either have cataracts or have had surgery to get rid of cataracts.
What causes a cataract?
Most cataracts are caused by normal changes in your eyes as you get older.
When you’re young, the lens in your eye is clear. Around age 40, the proteins in the lens of your eye start to break down and clump together. This clump makes a cloudy area on your lens — or a cataract.
How can I prevent cataracts?
You can take steps to protect your eyes and delay cataracts.
Wear sunglasses and a hat with a brim to block the sun.
Quit smoking, eat healthy, eat plenty of fruits and vegetables — especially dark, leafy greens like spinach, kale, and collard greens.
If you’re age 60 or older, get a dilated eye exam at least once every 2 years.

“My Son has never worn glasses before….”
When I hear those words and I get this type of a prescription I am just baffled.
I wear a -1.50 and I can’t drive without my glasses and if you know me you can attest that without my glasses I can’t see you from across the street 😁
“Hey Vic, I said hello to you the other day and you ignored me, but you looked angry…” I was trying to focus to see who the heck was waving at me🤣🤦🏻♂️
To convey with you how your support impacts the kids we donate eyeglasses to, sit down.
A 10 year old comes in, never wore glasses and goes in to get his eye exam, comes out with a pretty high Rx, we chose a frame, polycarbonate lenses for safety, durability, thickness etc…
Comes back 2 weeks later and his jaw drops as he puts his glasses on…with his mouth wide open, in awe…no, SHOCK!!!! He stares at everything in the room and asks his mom if she can read what he’s NOW able to read, SEE what HE is now able to SEE…the posters, door signage, down the hall…
I tell him let me show you something neat, we walk outside to show him the trees and how the leaves appear in 3D one overlapping the other with perfect depth. I wasn’t expecting the reaction we got once the door swung open.
….he placed his hand to his mouth and began crying 😢, “Mom…Mom…can you see that??!!!”
If I get this reaction once a year (happens more than you think) from a kid, from anyone, it makes it all worthwhile. With over 1000+ glasses donated annually we really appreciate your support. None of this is possible without our village. Thank you
