Applying for a professional teaching certificate should be straightforward, and school districts should be very supportive to ensure that they gain highly trained and proficient teachers. But, this is turning out to not be the case. I'm not receiving timely responses to my inquiries/requests, and some representatives are very bluntly stating that they do not submit teacher evaluations to the Florida Department of Education, do not inform me that my official transcripts are not shared with the Florida Department of Education, or would like to talk with me on the phone. I chose to reply that I prefer to communicate in writing. Very disappointingly, I have to share that this is my experience. I do not feel valued as an educator, especially in the current district that I am in. I would have expected "opened, welcoming arms" and very helpful minded representatives, instead of feeling pushed aside and not valued, especially as someone who has my professional credentials with proven work ethics, being rated as highly effective, and being a highly decorated campaign US Army veteran.

After earning my Bachelor of Technology in Electronics Engineering Technology, I was endorsed by New York City College of Technology to the New York State Education Department for a Bachelor of Science in Education, specifically Technology Teacher Education. This program included teaching internship and student teaching. I also took extra courses. I recently received my latest temporary teaching certificate from Florida Department of Education, which does not require me to take any professional development course. I simply have to take the professional and subject area exams to earn my professional certificate. I also could have taken the initial teaching certificate exams for New York State, which is regarded as higher than the Florida professional teaching certificate. After teaching internship and student teaching at Pre-K thru 12th grades, I taught for at least four years in the public school system, and I was determined to be a highly effective teacher during my evaluations. However, Brevard County School District is treating me as someone who has recently earned a bachelors degree and has recently started to teach without any training or teaching experience. I've even had a district representative unprofessionally and disrespectfully disregard my inquiries about the required professional development assigned to me by saying "You only have a temporary certificate!" As if to say that I belong in the category as someone who has entered the teaching career with only a bachelors degree without any teaching experience or training.
