Nearly 2 months ago, we received the heart wrenching news that our band mate and brother Josh has passed away. This has been a shocking and painful thing to try and grasp and has been extremely difficult for us to put into words, but thought it best to try. What Josh has brought to Kolo, what he’s given to anyone who has enjoyed our music, we feel we can never now thank him enough for.

Kolo has come such a long way from our beginnings in late 2021. The project was formed through Zeus and Danny emailing beats to each other and when Josh got involved, it really solidified into a team where we started to practice, write and plan. Josh picked up a guitar for the first time and learnt in the space of roughly a year, just to jam and create music with us. 6 months later Ollie joined us and we could be called a ‘band’ for the first time, filled with endless passion and excitement for the music we were making.

From then until now we’ve been on tour spanning from London up to Llangollen, played to nearly empty rooms in the dingiest of settings, gone through a name change, played to a few thousand people in various different festivals and released 7 singles and 3 music videos. We were always building towards an EP or album, slowly chipping away but played so many live shows (and all 4 of us busy with our various jobs) that we never put aside the right amount of time for it.

Josh’s kindness and warmth was felt from everyone who interacted with the band and he was always putting others before himself. He was the first one to resolve silly arguments, the first one to get a round in pre/post gig and the last one to pack down and make sure we hadn’t left any gear behind.

We have almost a hundred demos, half written songs, raw sounding unmixed tunes in the archive that we one day would be honoured to finish, some really incredible music that Josh created and left with us. We’ll one day start making again, but losing one of our greatest friends, our brother, is an unexpected and deep wound that we need time to try and process.

Our thoughts go out to Zeus and the rest of Josh’s family, his partner and his closest friends, as we all try to process this heartbreak. Thank you Josh for all you’ve done for us, for the friendship and endless good times. You are in our hearts, in our minds and in our music forever.
