Recently I installed a few of these for someone who needed to remote monitor their office, so I thought I would share on what they can do.
While I have installed many different thermostats, Ecobee has been very effective at getting data, and allowing a day to day view for customers.

If you have one of these, the goal is for the white line to try and get to the colored line. If you are in a situation where your unit feels like it runs all of the time, or something isn’t right, this is a great way start.
This is a standard feature with any ecobee thermostat.
If you’re entertaining a smart thermostat, I can recommend this one fully. I’ve been using one in my home for many years. Honestly, I’ve only had to touch it 10 times, since the app and Alexa can do all of the adjusting for me.

I’m not the best artist, so you’ll have to take it easy on me. All the same, I believe in knowledge.
This is a condenser coil. Residential coils make up most of your outside unit, but the fins are mostly the same.
If these are damaged badly as seen in red, the unit cannot transfer air effectively through this, which transfers heat. If we are not transferring heat well, we are inefficient, and drive our bill up, as well as the runtime of the unit.

Most units have guards, but not all.
I encourage everyone to make sure this is clean, and hopefully free of damage unlike this one here.

An encounter from Saturday.
Just like Electric air handlers in residential and even some gas systems, this drain in on the negative pressure side of the system. We need a trap to hold water so the unit cannot pull air it through the pipe, and in turn allows proper draining.
While there is a trap, this vent/cleanout renders the trap useless. If you have one of these in the attic or on a unit similar, please be sure there is a cap in place.
