He wasn’t trained to be a hero… but he became one anyway.
Out on a quiet farm, a Maremma Sheepdog named Luca had one job — watch over the chickens. Day and night, through heat, cold, and storms, he stayed close to his flock like a silent guardian.
At first, it seemed simple. Just a dog lying near a coop.
But the farmer soon noticed something different.
Every time a shadow passed overhead, Luca would stand tall, eyes locked on the sky. When the wind rustled the trees at night, he would slowly circle the coop, making sure every single chicken was safe. He didn’t sleep deeply — just enough to rest, never enough to stop protecting.
One night, a fox tried to sneak in.
It was quiet. Careful. Patient.
But Luca was more patient.
Before the chickens even sensed danger, Luca was already there — standing between them and the threat. No panic, no hesitation. Just pure instinct and loyalty. The fox didn’t stand a chance.
The next morning, the chickens were calm… like nothing ever happened.
Because to them, nothing did.
Luca had made sure of that.
What makes it even more special is this — no one taught him to love them this much. He chose to care. He chose to protect.
To Luca, they weren’t just chickens.
They were his family.
And he would give everything to keep them safe.

Our retired Maremma Sheepdog LGD (livestock guardian dog)- 11 1/2 years old living out his days in our home !! Mind 100% - still protecting from the porch. At 143 lbs assisting him to stand is quite the chore!! Our bodies are feeling it !! But LOOK AT HIM!! Years of guarding, loving and standing watch…. 🐾🐾

Well, that's how it goes 😓
Dom is around a year and already castrated.
He is affectionate, sweet, calm in the house.... Walking is going well.
He still doesn't walk loose during the walks 😳😱and that's a shame because they like that and need them. Running and playing with other dog friends makes you happy, relaxes and gives self-confidence
Dom usually has Maremma behavior around strangers. He won't greet them wavingly but first looks at the cat from the tree. He has the same with strange dogs, but that could also be due to the fact that he is left on a leash and then unable to speak "dog language". Once he knows the dogs, they're great friends.
We are looking for an owner with calm and calm leadership for Dom. He would do very well on that. Someone with a fairly spacious garden, who wants to go on some nice walks with him
and quickly gives him confidence in letting loose. You will regain that confidence. A switch up
You're going to have a great bond with Dom, if you invest in connection that builds trust. And that's insane to achieve that, that band.
The reason he has to be relocated is because he finds young running children busy and uncomfortable in the house.
The family is worried that accidents will happen.

Our wonderful livestock guardian dogs, Huck and Haskap ❤️ our LGDs are both maremma sheepdogs, a closely related breed to the Great Pyrenees. LGDs work best in teams where they can take turns looking after their flock and work together in defence when a threat does occur. They have mini naps periodically all through the day and spend more time being awake at dusk and dawn when predators are typically hunting. And on top of being so dedicated to their job, they’re also the cuddliest love muffins you’d ever meet ❤️
