How we spend our weekends in Houston ☀️🥵

Summer has officially arrived, which means lots of heat, a little flexibility, and plenty of sweating. 😅

Our weekends are usually filled with kids’ activities (Tom at Jiu-Jitsu and Emma at Little Gym), bike rides around the neighborhood, iced coffee stops, BBQs with friends (and lots of kids!), and of course cooling off in the pool.

Not every weekend is this packed with social activities, but it’s been so special to see how we’re building our community here together as a family. 💛

Jetlag with kids is truly a full body experience 😂✈️

10 days in the Netherlands & Italy for family, friends and a wedding was so special… but honestly?

Those 10-hour flights + a 7-hour time difference always hit hard.

The overstimulation.
The meltdowns.
Dragging around what feels like 17 bags for 1 child.
Numb arms once they finally fall asleep.
And trying to function on coffee, snacks & pure hope 🤍

Every trip reminds me how much mindset changes everything.

The less I try to make everything perfect, the easier it gets.
Accepting that routines will be chaos for a few days.
That naps won’t always happen.
That everyone is tired.

And most importantly: don’t overthink it.

Because somehow… it always works out in the end 💛

Also, being awake at 4am did have ONE advantage:
I finally had time to make content again 😂

Tell me I’m not the only one…

Preparing for a long trip with kids? It’s basically a full-on family migration. 🌍✈️
A long-haul flight alone is already a mission: entertainment, snacks, making sure they can actually sleep... and on top of that, life doesn’t stop. I still have work to get through before we leave.

So I did what any (slightly overwhelmed) travel mom can do: I had Claude.ai build me a custom packing list widget. Shared with my husband so we can both check things off in real time. No more “I thought YOU packed that” moments. 😅

It’s my number one tip for traveling with kids. The mental load drops immediately when you’re not the only one tracking everything or when you can get input based on your travel plans.

Last weekend we traded the city for a few days at the ranch with friends - wide open fields, horses, nature and that slower kind of Texas life I always imagined before moving here. The kids were completely in their element: running through the fields towards the horses, feeding the animals, horseback riding, swimming and spending the entire day outside. Just simple days, back to basics and exactly what we all needed.

And of course, no weekend away is complete without a little indulgence. We ended one of the afternoons with a beautiful wine tasting at the neighboring ranch, where the old horse stables had been transformed into the most charming tasting room. And honestly… for the first time, we actually really liked the Texas wines 😉

Such a special place, and another weekend filled with the kind of memories you wish you could bottle up forever.

It’s not that I don’t understand what people are saying.
It’s just… not always 100%.

Especially in those casual conversations different accents, new words, sentences that move just a little too fast.

You catch most of it. You fill in the rest. You nod at the right moments and hope for the best 🙂

And honestly? 90% gets you pretty far.

I wrote a blog about the small (and slightly funny) struggles of working abroad — link in bio 🤍
