Grace is a 5 year old Great Dane who had been struggling with some frustration driven leash reactivity, especially when she saw other dogs or wildlife. Grace weighs over 100 lbs and had pulled her mum to the ground quite a few times with all the lunging and pulling she had been doing. So, we started off by conditioning Grace to a head halter in order to gain some better control and help the human end of the leash stay safe while training.
Grace’s mum learned some new handling techniques and created a consistent baseline criteria of ‘calmness’ for access to anything. We built up some loose leash walking skills, and then combined that with a BAT (Behavior Adjustment Training) inspired approach to addressing the over arousal and leash reactivity, and within only a few short months we’ve made some incredible progress! 🙌🏼

Coco is 3.5 month old Golden Retriever who was a bit overwhelmed in his group puppy class. His mum said that he’d run and hide when the other puppies tried to engage with him. So, today I brought Dax with me and did a much slower intro, letting Coco set the pace.
When Coco initially saw us, he immediately started barking and wanting to run away; but with a little bit of counter conditioning, his emotions and behavior started to change. Over the course of an hour, Coco’s curiosity grew as he continued to become more and more comfortable 🥲 and eventually, he started offering some play bows and doing zoom zooms!
With time and a few more sessions with Dax, I’m hoping that Coco will gain enough confidence to where he’s able to return to his puppy class; but if not, that’s okay too. Group classes can be a bit intimidating and aren’t ideal for everyone. Coco is such a sweet little pup with a great family, and he really seems to enjoy learning 💜 I want to make sure that he feels safe and comfortable all along the way as he learns and grows.
