Summer break can be a relief for many children, but for others it can bring unexpected challenges. Changes in structure, less access to school counselors, and more unstructured time can increase anxiety, irritability, or overwhelming emotions, especially for kids who already need extra support.

Here are a few things families can watch for during the summer months:

🕰️ Loss of routine: Trouble sleeping, eating irregularly, or feeling “off” without structure

😔 Emotional changes: Increased frustration, withdrawal, or sadness that lasts more than a few weeks

📚 Gaps in support: School based services pause, but mental health needs don’t

🧠 Difficulty transitioning: Worry about the next school year or changes at home

👂 Unspoken stress: Kids may act out instead of saying they’re struggling

The good news: support doesn’t have to pause just because school does. Pediatric mental health care is available all summer, and telehealth visits can help families stay connected to licensed providers from home without travel, missed work, or schedule stress.

Consistent care during summer can help kids feel steadier, supported, and better prepared for what comes next.

💙 Caring for kids’ mental health is a year-round effort and support is available.

All of our Legacy clinics and pharmacies will be closed, Monday, May 25 in observance of Memorial Day with the exception of Legacy Southwest located at 6441 High Star 77074. Legacy Southwest will be open to provide pediatric walk-in care from 10:00 am - 6:00 pm.

Tuesday, May 26 we will be open our regular hours.
