A huge moment for Sage Geosystems.

Our CEO Cindy D. Taff took the TED Countdown stage in Nairobi, Kenya — one of the most important climate platforms in the world — to talk about the future of energy.

Twenty years ago, Cindy was an oil & gas engineer, focused on delivering affordable energy by drilling deep into the earth. But four years ago, a nudge sparked a major shift: What if everything we learned drilling for fossil fuels could be used to tap the earth’s heat instead?

That idea became the foundation of next-generation geothermal. Instead of relying on volcanic hot spots, next-gen geothermal can be deployed almost anywhere — using existing oil & gas infrastructure to drill for dry rock heat, not hydrocarbons.

The impact? Gigawatt-scale energy that’s baseload, dispatchable, and ready to scale today. To deliver 5GW by 2030, we’d need to drill just 500 wells per year — using less than 5% of the oil & gas industry’s current capacity.

This isn’t theoretical. It’s happening now. And it’s how we build a better energy future for the next generation.

What a year it has been for Sage Geosystems! From partnering with Meta to deliver 150 MW of geothermal power, to breaking ground on our first-of-its-kind 3 MW EarthStore energy storage facility in Christine, Texas, 2024 has been a milestone year. ⚡

🏆 This year also brought incredible recognition, including the InnovationMap Energy Transition Business Award and our CEO, Cindy D. Taff, being named one of TIME’s 100 Most Influential Climate Leaders.

This is just the beginning! 🚀 From groundbreaking projects with the United States Air Force, and the US Army at Fort Bliss, to ongoing advancements in geothermal energy, the list of accomplishments grows longer every day. These achievements wouldn’t be possible without the hard work of our team and the support of our partners.

Together, we’re redefining energy resilience and sustainability. Here’s to 2025! 🎉

Ensign is proud to announce that we’ve successfully drilled Sage Geosystems’ very first commercial energy storage well! This unique technology pumps water into deep underground fractures where it’s stored until it’s pumped back up through a turbine to generate electricity. Together with Rig T120’s skilled crews and Sage Geosystems, this project in Texas marks a significant step forward in the evolution of geothermal energy, showcasing the innovative capabilities of Sage Geosystems, which harvests not only heat but also pressure for their baseload systems.

In addition to this groundbreaking achievement, we celebrate an impressive safety milestone: our crews on Rig T120 have now completed three years with no recordable incidents. This milestone showcases our team’s commitment to safety.

Cindy Taff, CEO of Sage Geosystems, shared her enthusiasm about our collaboration: “These joint milestones achieved by Sage Geosystems and the Ensign Rig T120 crew are very exciting for us! Not only did we drill our very first energy storage well, but we also witnessed Rig T120's crew achieve an impressive safety milestone of three years no recordables. Joining forces with Ensign allowed us to bring this vision closer to reality, and we’re thrilled to have worked with such a dedicated and skilled rig crew to reach these significant achievements.”

We’re honoured to have collaborated with Sage Geosystems on such a unique project in this every-changing energy landscape. A huge thank you to our incredible team on Rig T120 for working hard to meet our client’s needs while remaining safety focused 💪🌍.
