If your clothes dryer is upstairs, somewhere in the middle of the house, or not on an outside wall chances are it vents through the attic to the outside. If you ever notice that your cloths are not drying like they used to, it might be a clogged vent pipe and not a faulty dryer. It is crucial that the vent pipe be cleaned every couple of years or it could lead to a dryer/vent fire. This pipe was in a 7 yr old home and was left in this condition for the new buyers.
