The Seacoast United Phantoms will compete in the 2025 Hank Steinbrecher Cup June 6th in the second semi-final match, with a win moving onto the Championship game on June 8th! The tournament features champions from various amateur leagues across the country. On June 6, at 7:30 p.m., Seacoast United Phantoms—2024 USL League 2 champions based in Epping—will face off against the Houston Regals, winners of the 2024 USSSA soccer championship. Earlier that evening, at 5 p.m., the 2024 National Premier Soccer League champions, El Farolito from San Francisco, will compete against West Chester United from Pennsylvania, the 2024 USASA champions and the defending Steinbrecher Cup titleholders. The cup is named after Hank Steinbrecher, a former U.S. Soccer Secretary who helped bring the 1994 World Cup to the U.S. Steinbrecher died in March at the age of 77. The Steinbrecher Cup was started in 2013 by Nashua’s John Motta, the chairman of the U.S. Soccer Adult Council. The new trophy will be given to the amateur team that goes the farthest in the U.S. Open Cup each year, said Motta, a Bristol, Rhode Island, native. Motta said he hopes that the young soccer players who attend the games see that they can continue playing high quality soccer when they become adults. “Between that and the World Cup coming (to North America) next year, we’re really hoping it brings a lot of enthusiasm to the sport,” Motta said. 05/30/2025
