The Annie’s List dinner with Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia was such a special evening. From the powerful conversations to the packed room of women who believe in Annie’s List vision for Texas, it’s clear they’re doing the hard, important work of building long-term infrastructure to support progressive women across the state.

I’ve been proud to support Annie’s List since 2009, and I truly believe in their mission more than ever.

On Saturday, the governing body of the Texas Democratic Party chose to elect one of their own members to be the next Party Chair. Congratulations to Kendall Scudder!

I’ve spent the last few months traveling to every part of our state. We’ve held or attended over thirty events, from Austin, Arlington, Dallas, El Paso, Fort Worth, Granbury, Houston, Laredo, Lubbock, San Antonio, to Tyler, and many more, with a few virtual events, too. Our power is our people and I’m grateful to every person that helped us on this journey. We built a team of volunteers, donors and elected officials all across the state that recognized we need change at the Texas Democratic Party. We need a unified, transparent and collaborative democratic community working together to build power in the state.

I’ve spent my career fighting for Democrats—organizing, fundraising, and leading the largest county party in Texas - and I am committed to staying in the arena.

When I started, every judge in Harris County was a Republican. But we did the work, we organized, and now our courts actually look like the people they serve and we have a Democratic commissioners court. That’s what happens when Democrats work together, when we show up, do the work and invest in the people.

Today, I feel lucky. Although we weren’t successful, I’m sitting on the couch next to my husband who is working, cuddling with my dog, and reading texts from friends across the state wishing me well. And I’m grateful to have so many new democratic family members to call on when we need to activate.

And let’s be clear: we will need to activate! Republicans in the Texas House and at the national level are overreaching. We have to fight back by organizing at every level and pushing back in the 2026 election. I am so thankful for the support you’ve shown me the last few months; but mostly, I’m so thankful to have each of you in our party’s corner for the fight ahead!

Thank you to the Texas Tribune for providing me the platform to share my vision for giving Texas Democrats the fighting chance we deserve. Together, we will ignite the change, energy, and progress our state needs to thrive in the years ahead!

There is so much energy around this potential new chapter for Texas Democrats. Everywhere I go, people come up to me and say, “I want to be a part of the Democratic Party. I want to elect Democrats so we can protect our people,” But we need a party that isn’t divided by regions or labels. We need a party that listens and works for every Democrat. That is the only way we win.

These conversations are ones I plan to continue when elected Texas Democratic Party Chair because we have the chance to do something big for our state and country.

I promise you that I will always work for and with you. Ask anybody in Harris County if you need to hear it from someone else. That’s how I led the party here, and that is how I will lead the Texas Democratic Party.

And I make that promise to every volunteer, county party, SDEC member, elected official, and voter.
