The SE tax consists of Social Security taxes and Medicare taxes. The self-employment tax is comparable to what is taken out of full-time employees’ paychecks. Since self-employed folks don’t have this amount automatically withdrawn from their paychecks, they must file their Schedule SE, or Form 1040. The current self-employment tax rate is 15.3% and consists of two parts: 12.4% for social security (old-age, survivors, and disability insurance) and 2.9% for Medicare (hospital insurance).

Why use a tax professional verses do it yourself software? This is a common question that we get often when onboarding new clients. Having a tax professional handling your taxes reduces stress that can be associated with filing taxes and trying to understand the tax laws that are constantly changing each year. Making even one mistake can be very costly and lead to months if not years of unwanted communication with the IRS. A tax professional can help eliminate errors and ensure your returns are prepared correctly. You benefit from money-saving tax planning, year-round Q&A, paycheck check-ups, audit assistance, expenses tracking tools, refund advances, and even earning money through referrals.
Message me to receive a link to our secure client portal so you can upload your tax documents and be contacted by a tax professional today.
