Our protective skills served us well and kept us alive through many experiences. We can honor the place they have had in our lives and appreciate them, and also recognize that we may not need those skills anymore. Sometimes coping skills that were very helpful at one point are no longer useful in our lives and actually get in the way of being our true authentic self.

Gratitude turns what we have into enough.
Of course there are points in people’s lives where they don’t have “enough”—people in poverty, people without basic needs met, people who are hurt and oppressed, people in traumatic situations. But, once you have your safety and security needs met, rarely does that external “thing” actually bring more happiness or joy. The bigger house, the better car, the promotion, the award, the perfect body, even the good looking spouse or the 2.5 kids….all of these things outside ourselves can be appreciated and loved, but they don’t “fix” us.
Living contently allows us to connect internally and find true inner peace and joy.
