My husband has never clipped our children’s nails.

I can count on one hand the number of times he’s changed crib sheets or combed through tangled hair.

He doesn’t know that next Friday is Pajama Day at school.

He didn’t buy Valentines for the class party a month ahead of time (before all the good ones were gone).

And I usually make dinner.

But he would if I asked him to.

I don’t run to Home Depot to pick up a part.

Or monitor our retirement funds. Or check insurance rates.

But I would if he asked me to.

The bigger checks deposited into our account don’t have my name on them.

I’ve long since let go of the who did what, and when score sheet.

I’m not concerned with fair, because fair looks different in marriage and parenthood.

I’m just worried about what moves this family forward.

And I’m thankful we get to move forward in life together.
