FINANCIAL PLANNING 101 Does your child qualify?

According to The Journal of Blacks in Higher Education, only 11.4% of black undergraduates received merit-based grants.

Unfortunately, one of the reasons the numbers are so low is not social inequality, or that our children are not as smart as their academic counterparts, but our failure to adequately prepare.

Too many parents wait until senior year to take SAT prep courses. While that could help your child get into preferred colleges, it won’t necessarily “show them the money!”

Parents should prepare their children for The PSAT/NMSQT as early as the 8th grade to get an idea of where their student stands academically.

The 8th, 9th, 10th grade scores won’t qualify them for merit scholarships so early, but it will prepare them for the test when it really counts!

The same way that parents are paying big $$$ in sports camps and leagues, they should be investing in academic prep camps and leagues as well.

Enroll your child TODAY for the PSAT in October. It’s only offered once a year. Your child deserves every advantage.

One of my students just sent me his SAT test scores. He improved by 140 points!!! This young man is a stand out athlete who needed higher scores to get into the higher-division colleges.

My SAT course is individually tailored around each student’s ability. I begin by assessing the student’s strengths and weaknesses and then design our sessions around improvement. If the student is weak in a certain area, I go back and help him master the basics. Where a student is strong, I increase the levels of difficulty.

I also administer lots of mock tests and go over the student’s mistakes and help him/her see how to dig deep and solve the questions whether it’s breaking down a math problem or unraveling a different read.
