At Michigan Tech, we know snow, and this winter was no exception! ❄️

The Keweenaw Peninsula saw a total of 360.6 inches of snowfall this winter season, just 30 inches shy of the all-time record! Vistas like Brockway Mountain may not be snowcapped anymore, but our researchers are always investigating the dynamics at play in our local surroundings.

This winter, Ben Kopec and his team from the Michigan Tech Great Lakes Research Center took their snowmobile-attached isotopic analyzer to Brockaway's peak to gather data as part of their ongoing water cycle tracing research.

Welcome to the team!

In April, the Enterprise Program at Michigan Tech and Design Expo celebrated 26 years of discovery-based learning. While the Enterprise Program is now a hallmark of experiential education on campus, the program is still expanding, with three new student-led teams in the last two years.

The Aeronautics and Rocketry Enterprise, Urban Intelligence Lab Enterprise, and Ink & Ore Enterprise represent new opportunities in the fields of aerospace, data science and publishing for students looking to put their skills to the test.

Putting Husky ingenuity to the test! 🪓

In April, the Department of Materials Science and Engineering sent three student teams to compete in the national Cast in Steel competition in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Teams were tasked with creating their own horseman axe from scratch and then tested for performance and strength.

Cast in Steel is a national competition that challenges university teams to design, cast, and test a fully functional metal tool or weapon. Hosted by the Steel Founders’ Society of America, the event brings together students, faculty, and industry professionals to celebrate the art and science of metal casting. Congratulations to our Husky teams!
