Guide to Buying Wireless Equipment For Home:
Did you know that Wi-Fi 7 is 4 times faster than 5G? You may have heard about 5G, LTE, 4G, and 3G in terms of mobile network speed. Similarly, there are different versions of Wi-Fi, including Wi-Fi 7, 6E, 6, and 5. While Wi-Fi 6 is theoretically equivalent to 5G, Wi-Fi 7 wireless equipment will start appearing in stores around 2024. But what sets them apart, and does it really matter?
In a typical household, you won't fully utilize the capabilities of Wi-Fi 7 due to limitations imposed by your Internet Service Provider, and most consumer devices don't support Wi-Fi 7 yet. However, if you're lucky enough to own a large home, you might actually benefit from it.
Now, if Wi-Fi 7 isn't necessary for your needs, what kind of Wi-Fi equipment should you consider? The key question you should ask yourself is how much square footage you need to cover. When looking at Wi-Fi equipment, you'll come across model numbers like AC-2000, AX-4000, or AXE-6000. Here's a simple rule of thumb: for AC (Wi-Fi 5), divide the number by 3. For AX (Wi-Fi 6), divide it by 4. For AXE (Wi-Fi 6E), divide it by 4.5. For BE (Wi-Fi 7), divide it by 8.
For example, let's take AX2400: 2400 divided by 4 equals 600 square feet of optimal performance coverage.
