Furnitureland Rotary announced the 2025 winners of its Fairview Elementary School Shirlee Carda Scholarships. Rotarian Randy Carda reviewed the history of the Scholarship from its inception in 1998, when five students were awarded a backpack full of school supplies and a shopping trip for school clothes as they entered the next phase of their educational career in middle school. The number of recipients increased over the years until a district grant in 2011 enabled us to increase the number of recipients to 12, where it has remained ever since. To date we have awarded 244 scholarships to a total of 26 classes. Over $92,000 has been spent to promote the Shirlee Carda Scholarships and the Student of the Month program, which encourages good academic performance and citizenship for all Fairview fifth graders.
Winners of this year's scholarships are, from left, Adrian Yanez, Myracle Wilson, Alexandria Baregas Villatoro, Skye Smith, Melvin Rivera, Jennifer Ramirez, K'Leaha Moore, Joi McDonald, Rawan Kazar, Kitaiy Little, Kaleb Carmichael, Bryan Martinez.
