GREETINGS!

Fresh from our return with an incredible performance and an awesome trip to Washington, DC for the National Cherry Blossom Parade, we start the wheels spinning for our 2023 marching band season. Actually, planning for the show began months ago. The show title and theme will be announced later this month at our annual Marching Band Celebration on April 29th.

Our show for 2023 will be full of our usual high energy, fun, and loud hornline, but it is going to have a bit of a different twist this year. You'll understand when the show and music are announced. More than anything, we need great performers to make the show work. WE NEED YOU!

If you are going to be an LR student (undergrad or graduate), a community college student, or simply a member of the greater Hickory community, you can participate. All we ask is that you have musical and performance ability, a desire to work hard for success, and are able to attend rehearsals and performances. We can supply the instruments and equipment. There is no charge, except for the possibility of an overnight trip (hotel TBA). On trips and at games, meals will be your expense as well. There is no fee for membership.

The Spirit of LR performs at all Home LR Football Games, travels to several high school band competitions as the exhibition band, and plans to make one trip to perform an exhibition on the coast of NC. Parades and other community functions are required of the band as needed. A comprehensive schedule is provided prior to the season.

Rehearsals begin with Band Camp: for guard & percussion Aug. 9th-11th. Full Band Camp is Aug. 12th-17th. Rehearsals during the season are Wednesdays 3:15-5:00, Thursday nights 6:30-9:30, and Fridays 4:00-5:30. Games and exhibitions are on Saturdays. Schedule will be sent out in June.

There will be the LR GUARD and PERCUSSION DAY on Saturday May 6th 9:00am-4:00pm. More details will follow about this day to get these two sections a headstart.

Special note: We exceptionally need more in the sections of low brass, percussion, and colorguard!
