📢 Virginia Tax Rebate 2025 — What You Should Know
Good news, Virginia taxpayers! This fall, the Commonwealth is issuing one-time tax rebates of up to $200 for individual filers and $400 for joint filers.
Here are the key details:
✅ Eligibility & Filing Deadline
• You must have had a tax liability in 2024 (i.e. you owed some state income tax) to qualify.
• You must file your Virginia return by November 3, 2025 to be considered.
• If you’ve already filed, you don’t need to take any further action.
📆 When Rebate Will Be Sent
• If your return was filed before July 1, your rebate should be processed starting October 15, and you may receive it by the end of October.
• If you got your state refund via direct deposit, your rebate should go into that same account.
• Otherwise, you’ll receive a paper check in the mail.
⚠️ Important Caveats
• If you owe money to Virginia Tax or another local/state agency, the rebate may first be applied to pay off those debts before sending you any remainder.
• If your outstanding debts exceed the rebate amount, you won’t get any cash back, but you’ll receive a notice explaining how the rebate was used.
💡 What You Can Do Now
1. Check your 2024 tax records to see if you had a state tax liability.
2. Ensure your Virginia return is filed by November 3, 2025.
3. After September 25, you can visit tax.virginia.gov/rebate to check your eligibility and status.
What You Need to Know About the 2025 Tax Rebate | Virginia Tax The General Assembly passed a law giving taxpayers with a tax liability a rebate of up to $200 for individual filers and up to $400 for joint filers. You must file by November 1, 2023 to be eligible for the rebate.
