Hello all,
We had a FANTASTIC day at the dig site today! Not only was the weather in our favor but so were the artifacts. Setting a new streak, we had another fully intact glass bottle for the second week in a row. We also found a metal button, the rim/head of a shotgun shell, and two DIFFERENT slate pencils. All of these along with a usual spattering of glass and some small sherds of ceramics. Thanks to all who continue to help out and support the dig, we couldn’t do it without you.

Happy New Year, Everyone!! We hope you are all doing well and had a great holiday season. Unfortunately, we did not have a meeting in January. No worries, we will be back on schedule (weather permitting) February 2nd. We were looking into having our monthly meetings at a new location. However, it is in the Chapters' best interest to remain at the Hamburg Municipal building (61 N. 3rd Street, Hamburg, PA, 19526). We will be meeting in the community room on the 2nd floor. There is an elevator available for those that cannot do the steps. Our speaker for Monday, February 2, 2026 will be Society for Pennsylvania Archaeology member Frank Fireheart, guardian of Sacred Sites. Also known as Ceremonial Stone Landscapes.
Dues for Chapter membership have been increased this year from $10 to $15 per year and should be promptly paid to our treasurer, Tim Morrissey.
The Schuylkill County Coalition of Historical Societies will hold its annual history faire at a new location this year. It is scheduled for Saturday, February 14, 2026 from 10am to 4pm. The new location is Foursquare Gospel Church (2300 Mahantongo Street, Pottsville, PA 17901). We will have our Chapter table there all day. This event is free to the public. The history faire is a wonderful opportunity to connect with local history buffs and to learn more about Schuylkill County History. Over 30 local historical societies, private collectors, vendors, and Us (the ONLY Archaeological Chapter) will have historical artifacts on display for all to enjoy. We look forward to this event every year and hope to see you there!!
Weather permitting, we will be in the lab at the Acopian Center (410 Summer Valley Road, Orwigsburg, PA 17961) next Monday, February 2nd at 10am.
Thank you for your continued support of SPA Chapter 31 Hawk Mountain!
You're welcome 😊
