Last week our bedding in the chicken coop was ready to be changed so we got hard to work shoveling all the old bedding out and laying out some fresh new bedding! The old bedding material was piled up as the start of our compost pile and will be able to start being working into the gardens later this year!
I know this update is a short one but I’m trying to get caught up on some of the missed updates that will hopefully be posted over the next few days so stay tuned! Until then stay safe everyone and I’ll see you in the next one!!

Hi, guys, Amy here!
Wanted to give a fun little update on our chickens. Despite this heat wave we have been having the last few weeks, and us changing some things with our watering and feeding containers for the chickens to make sure they have everything thing they need, we are finally seeing a lot of egg production from our hens. When I went to collect the eggs, we had 10 eggs. 10! Which is amazing for our flock 24 hens! So far we are up to at least 6 dozen eggs in our fridge we are hoping to give to friends and family as we aren’t eating that many eggs right now.
I hope everyone has a good rest of the week, stay safe, stay hydrated, and we’ll see you next time.

While I originally planned to skip on the garden this year due to various other projects things didn’t go quite as planned. Last month a close friend of ours offered us some plants and we couldn’t really say no to such an offer. What started out as going to pick up some a few plants for some planters turned into my entire truck being loaded up with well over a hundred plants and no where to go with all of them at the time.
Luckily I had already had a spot picked out for our garden next year and it was just a matter of breaking ground early and hoping for the best. Currently we have tomatoes and cucumbers in the ground and are working fast to get the rest sorted out and planted. Hopefully we can be fortunate enough to see a decent harvest this year and will work with what’s currently available to see what has to change for next year as far as location and soil conditions.
We are very lucky to have such a great group of family and friends who want to see us succeed with all our goals and help us achieve them. Thank you everyone for the continued support we most definitely appreciate it! The next update will be coming soon! Until then stay safe everyone and we will see you all very soon!

Our blackberries are in bloom!
Years past I’ve missed the opportunity to harvest wild blackberries due to not getting to them before the critters do… But not this year! Not only are they growing right in my backyard but I get to watch as they go from flower to berry and can harvest as soon as they are ripe for the picking!
Follow along for more updates and if your interested go follow Amy’s new page The Backwoods Dutch Oven for all the recipes she will eventually be posting utilizing this years harvest plus much, much more!! As alway stay safe everyone and I’ll see you all in the next update!!
