🔥ACL Rehab🔥⁣
💥Hop Matrix💥⁣

💯Controlling the lower body and core is critical for injury prevention and return to sport after knee injury. 😭😭😭⁣

🦵🏼After ACL surgery, it takes significant time⌛️ to regain a signal from the new ACL for spatial awareness. 🧠🧠⁣

💯It is important to retrain the body to control every movement in all planes of motion. ✈️🛩⁣

🆘🆘 In many cases, you are probably teaching the muscles, joint receptors, tendons l, etc around the recovering ACL to compensate and be aware of movements that would endanger the ACL. 🆘🆘⁣

💯It is important in rehab that we train this neuromuscular control in all planes and in our prevention programs that we make sure our athletes can control motions such as hopping and landing safely. 💯⁣

In our videos we show two different hop matrixes that involve hopping and controlling the landing moving in all planes. ⁣

🎥The first video is in a close tight space and the second adds moving forward and controlling that momentum.🎥⁣

🔥 Ankle Rehab🔥⁣
💯Balance Exercises 💯⁣

🤸🏾Balance exercises are part of typical ankle rehab. They are also a great starting point for weight bearing exercise for those with knee pain that hurt with squatting motions.🏋🏻‍♂️⁣

🤾🏽‍♂️When you use upper extremity drivers while you balance, proprioception is challenged and good muscular co-contraction happens at the hip, knee, and ankle.👢⁣

The videos 🎥 🎥🎥 give you some ideas of challenging balance with upper and lower extremity drivers. We minimize any squatting movement in this early phase for those with knee pain issues but incorporate the need for control in all planes.✈️✈️✈️⁣

Increased Tibial Posterior Slope Increases Risk of ACL Injury ⁣

Posterior tibial slope is defined as the angle between the tibial mid-shaft line and the line between the anterior and posterior edges of the medial tibial plateau.⁣

Excessive posterior tibial slope has been identified as a risk factor for both primary and secondary ACL injury.⁣

Increased Radiographic Posterior Tibial Slope Is Associated With Subsequent Injury Following Revision Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction⁣

While we continue to gain more insight in both intrinsic and extrinsic risk factors of a first and second ACL injury, excessive posterior slope particularly on the lateral tibial plateau appears to be consistently found as a anatomic risk factor for both.

🧠🔥Cognitive Loading ⁣
Mid to Final Phase ACL Rehab❤️🧠⁣

⚽️We have a great video 📽🎥of a post ACL patient performing a deadlift matrix . Our patient is reacting to the app in front of him and the color it flashes on the screen. Each color corresponds to a different medicine ball to pick up. ⁣

⚽️ We are further loading his cognitive system with the toss and catch where he has to focus on catching the ball and look forward the next color⚽️.-⁣

🧠We’ve talked about the necessity to engage as much of our neurological system as we engage or muscular system throughout the ACL rehab process. 🧠⁣

🧠🔥 Not only is this more functional than our typical 3 sets of 10 activities, it addresses the cognitive decline that occurs after injury.😣⁣

🧠 🔥 Cognitive loading activities can be used in all phases of rehab progressing from simple to complex. More brain engagement results in more neuromuscular carryover.💪🏻👊🏻🦵🏼⁣

⚽️ Loading the cognitive system to have the athlete perform higher level activities while being mentally stimulated to react and make decisions should be part of what athletes should demonstrate in their safe progression before their return to sport.⚽️⁣

Thank You Dylan!⁣

Our clinic’s core values are :⁣

1. Create a great patient experience ⁣
2. Achieve the best possible outcomes ⁣
3. Staff togetherness ⁣

If one of the three is lacking, or if decisions are made outside of those core values, everything suffers.⁣

We are always excited to mentor the next generation of Doctors of Physical Therapy, but they must embody our core values.⁣

Dylan did that from day one and while it was up to our staff to create an accepting environment where he feels welcome and can learn, it was up to him to live up to those characteristics daily.⁣

Dylan was a great asset to us during his time here and will be a great asset to our profession once he passes the boards.⁣

Dylan, you are family and always welcome. You know a scary amount about professional soccer. You are cool even though you are a Chelsea fan but I will give you a pass because of Christian Pulisic. All the best dude.⁣

So cool to connect with and to have been part of her ACL recovery. One year post-op is a big milestone and back playing with her team in Massachusetts. Covid-19 has caused a lot of pain, but getting to work with Rachel and the other college kids in their rehab coming back to Arizona is a bright spot for me.
