NUMBER ONE on this day in 1973 --- Ray Stevens with "The Streak!’ It capitalized on the then-popular craze of streaking. Stevens has stated that he first got the idea for the song while reading a news magazine on an airplane. The magazine included a brief item about streaking. What a throwback!!
Over in the UK, it was The Rubettes at #1 with "Sugar Baby Love," a bubblegum pop song and the debut single of the Rubettes. ‘Sugar Baby Love’ was the band's one and only number one single.
While Germany & New Zealand celebrated Terry Jacks at the top spot with "Seasons In The Sun" - It became a worldwide hit in 1974 for Canadian singer Terry Jacks and his version is one of the fewer than forty all-time singles to have sold 10 million copies worldwide.
