Summer is just around the corner and summers in Galveston County bring beautiful beaches, outdoor fun, and dangerous heat! Extreme heat can cause a range of serious health problems, including heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Learn the signs of heat related illness so you're prepared when our temperatures rise.

Common Symptoms of Heat-Related Illness:

Heat Exhaustion: Heavy sweating, weakness, dizziness, nausea, headache

Heat Stroke (a medical emergency): Confusion, loss of consciousness, hot/dry skin, high body temperature

Who’s Most at Risk?
- Older adults
- Young children
- Outdoor workers
- Individuals without air conditioning
- People with chronic illnesses

Stay Safe:
- Drink water regularly, even if you’re not thirsty.
- Take breaks in the shade or A/C.
- Avoid outdoor activity during peak heat hours (10 AM – 4 PM).

If someone shows signs of heat stroke, call 911 immediately and move them to a cooler location.
