A month ago I got to stand in front of 200+ leaders, educators, and community partners at the conference and talk about the thing that breaks most teams, and nobody names it.

Lack of effective communication.

Groupthink. Communication that flows one way. Roles nobody actually owns. A foundation that was never built in the first place. A toxic culture that doesn't allow collaboration.

We kicked things off with a Lego activity. 200 people, building structures in groups, with intentionally unclear instructions. What happened in those groups was everything, the person who took over without asking, the idea that never got shared because someone else was already moving, the foundation that never got built because everyone just started.

The debrief was where it got real. Because every single thing that went sideways during that exercise is exactly what happens in your organization too. District office, school site, parent committee, doesn't matter. The dynamics are the same.

And here's what hit me most about that room. District staff, teachers, parents, and community partners all sitting together, all recognizing themselves in the same patterns. The best part, the room already knew what healthy teams looked like. They've always known.

The gap isn't information. It's intention.

This is the work I love doing, helping leaders and organizations stop surviving their team dynamics and start building something that actually holds together. If that resonates, it's time for us to connect.

Took a vacation. Came back to find out a deal almost died because nobody but me could approve a discount.

Sound familiar?

If you're the only person on your team who can say yes, you didn't build a team. You built a really expensive assistant job for yourself.

The fix isn't complicated: clear roles, clear limits, and a way to see results so trust builds without you checking in on every move.

Structured to Scale walks you through building that, at your own pace.

The meeting went well. Everyone nodded. You moved on.

And then the work came back wrong.

Nods are not confirmation. Silence is not agreement. The only real confirmation is what your team does after the conversation — and most leaders never go back to check.

This is part 3 of 3 on what effective communication actually requires. If you’ve been following along, you now have the full framework. Want to build it into how your whole team leads? That’s what Structured to Scale is for. Link in bio.
