Banat Tanjora is a Fresno-based performance group formed around a love for the cultural arts of Egypt, with special focus on the performing arts of Upper Egypt, and the Ghawazee in particular. They come from all over the Central Valley and beyond to perform at local Renaissance faires and festivals, to share their love of the arts of Egypt.
Banat Tanjora will be dancing a ghawzee-inspired choreography to “Luxor Baladna” performed by Upper Egypt Ensemble.
“Luxor Baladna” (Luxor, Our Town) is an iconic Egyptian song celebrating the city of Luxor in the 1967 musical film Gharam fil-Karnak (Love in Karnak).
The members of Banat Tanjora study many styles of Egyptian and other regional dances and performing arts, both traditional and modern. Several of our members of the group have traveled to Egypt to study directly with source culture artists and through cultural immersion.

Banat Tanjora includes professional dancers, students, guest performers, musicians, and martial artists, performing Ghawazee inspired improvisational dance, Saidi style tahtib stick fighting, Egyptian folkloric dances, and historically based theatrical dances.
