Did you know that when you perform CPR, you aren't actually 'restarting' the heart? 🫀
I like think a heart is like a light switch that you're trying to flip back on. In reality, during cardiac arrest, the heart has stopped pumping blood. When you push on the chest, you are physically acting as a manual hydraulic pump.
By compressing the chest about 2 inches deep, you are squeezing the heart against the spine to force blood out to the brain. When you let go (the recoil), the heart refills. You are literally keeping that person’s brain alive by hand until the defibrillation electrodes (AED pads) can arrive to 'reset' the electrical rhythm!
It’s an incredible workout for the rescuer and a literal lifesaver for the patient. 🩺💪

What a day! I wrapped up an amazing experience at today’s health fair with ABCpr Mobile. The turnout was incredible, and I’m still buzzing from all the great conversations. It feels so good to see the business growing and the community showing up!
