"When I think about Juneteenth, I think less about it being a specifically American, but how it connects African American thoughts about freedom and emancipation to the same notions across the African diaspora. There is this impulse towards commemorating, celebrating, and remembering freedom. African Americans have always used these moments of memory to think about where the community has come from and what we’re pursuing and striving towards, as well as taking the time to pass down history and culture." - Angela Tate

Happy Juneteenth.

In early April, Wesley Haffenden, Jorge Fernandez, and I challenged our opponents and other local and state candidates to take a stand against the proposed industrial quarry and development in Southwest Allen County.

Tonight, we’re celebrating with our community because the people won and corporate overreach lost.

This was never inevitable. It happened because residents showed up, spoke out, and refused to be ignored. YOU did this. The people.

As the Democratic candidate for State Representative for in Northwest Allen County, I’m proud to stand with them. This wasn't necessarily my fight this time, but I chose to stand with those who are fighting. Because we never know when next time, it will be our fight, and we will need others to stand with us.

I also appreciate those on both sides of the aisle who heard their constituents & accepted our challenge in condemning this proposal.

As Wesley said, when corporate power comes for our neighborhoods, we will meet it head on. And we will keep winning if people stay organized and engaged.

Tonight belongs to the community. 🎉

Special thanks to Kate Conner & Ewelina Connolly for leading on this, LeeCastillo4me for joining us, and Kelly Thompson for always standing with the people

It’s been one week since Convention Day. Throughout the race, we asked if we were bold enough to meet the moment. While we faced a formidable machine, that question wasn’t in vain. It empowered many who felt on the fringes. Now, as we regroup, we know boldness isn’t just about one moment. It’s about continuing to stand up for those unheard. That mission isn’t over. Stay tuned for more.

10 years ago in the early morning hours of June 12, 49 people were killed while dancing. While being themselves. While being around a community they, and I, love. Right in the middle of Pride month.

I think about the people who navigate a world that doesn't always feel safe for them. I think about what it means to walk into a space that is supposed to be meant for connection, and have it end with calamity. No one should have to worry that being themselves could cost them their lives.

In Indiana, there are legislators working to make life more difficult for my LGBTQ+ siblings. My opponent is among them -leaving Hoosiers feeling less safe, less seen, less protected.

I refuse to accept that. District 81 deserves a representative who believes everyone belongs - and deserves to love. Fully, safely, without exception.

That's not a political position. That's just humanity.
