✈️ Did You Know? Fort Myers Helped Train Military Pilots During World War II

Before Southwest Florida became known for beaches, golf courses, and retirement communities, Fort Myers played an important role in America's World War II efforts.

During the war, the area was home to Page Field Army Air Base, where military pilots and aviation personnel trained before being deployed overseas.

At the height of World War II, thousands of servicemen passed through Fort Myers as part of the nation's massive aviation training program.

Why Fort Myers?
☀️ Year-round flying weather
🛩️ Wide open training areas
🌴 Strategic location away from coastal threats

The military presence brought new jobs, economic growth, and development to the region, helping shape the Fort Myers we know today.

Many local streets, buildings, and aviation facilities still trace their roots back to this period of Southwest Florida history.

It's a reminder that long before Southwest Florida became one of the fastest-growing regions in the country, it was helping train the men and women who supported the Allied victory in World War II.
