Brushing hate, intolerance, and evil under the rug is what got our country into this mess in the
first place.
These characters need to be called out and loudly. **i

Happy to see all these politicians speaking out in defense of our marginalized communities!

Hate and antisemitism have no place in Fishkill.

Over the weekend, Fishkill experienced a hateful incident during the Village Block Party, an event that is typically a time of joy, celebration, and community. A man interrupted a video being recorded by two young girls and made a N**i salute. It is especially troubling that this occurred during an event dedicated to bringing neighbors together.

Let’s be clear: a N**i salute is a hateful symbol of violence, antisemitism, and bigotry. It is reprehensible and deserves to be condemned in the strongest possible terms.

What makes this especially upsetting is that it occurred only a few days after many of us gathered on the same block to honor Memorial Day. My grandfather fought in World War II to defeat the N**i regime, and like so many families, mine understands the sacrifices that were made to confront hatred and defend freedom.

Fishkill is a welcoming community. We must continue to stand together against hate in all its forms and reaffirm our commitment to treat one another with dignity, respect, and compassion.

We are pleased to share this statement made by Mayor Kathy Martin on behalf of all the trustees in the Village.

This video includes her full statement as well as comments by our community members - it’s important to see that Fishkill is not…whatever this person thinks it is.

We hope that this can somewhat alleviate the pain this person caused our community.

We chose to bring this to the attention of our followers rather than brush it aside because our group is dedicated to advocating for Fishkill. While we have gotten a little more into working to help showcase Fishkill’s community and activities, we are at our core an advocacy group.

Days like these we choose to be vocal in the face of expressions of hate and violence. We really see no choice but to stand on the right side of history.

Again, thank you to Mayor Martin and the rest of the VOF elected officials for making such decisive remarks so quickly. It’s not easy to speak out, but it is your job to represent your constituents, and you did it well.

Once we receive a statement from the Town we will publish that. Please stay tuned.
