Please come join us!

June 2026

Guild Meeting Information:
Monday, June 1st at 6 pm Emory Baptist Church, Memorial Hall

This month's meeting will be a “finish up” time. Please bring any NICU quilts that need to be turned in. If you have one that is not quite finished, bring it to work on. We will also need people to sew on labels.

Also, you can bring your fabric for your “One Block Wonder.” We can work on getting those strips cut and ready for Saturday’s workshop.

For Monday night, bring your NICU quilts, sewing machine, notions, and extension cord. To prepare for workshop, see list below.

Workshop Information:
Saturday, June 6th, 9 am
Emory Baptist Church, Memorial Hall

For June workshop, please bring the following:

Lunch - if you plan on eating!
Your machine and accessories
Thread
Small iron (if you have one) and ironing mat
Extension cord!

Fabric. I can’t tell you EXACTLY how much fabric you will need. You will need a fabric that has a distinct repeat. You will need to cut 6 strips, 3 ½ inches wide. You MUST cut 6 strips! Ask me how I know! I will show sample fabrics on Monday night.
OR . . . you can choose to make your quilt using panels. This will make a quilt rather than just a table runner. If you choose this option, you will need 7 panels.

There are several members that we have not seen in a while. We miss you! I hope you will be able to join us for the Guild meeting and the workshop. Please feel free to call me if you have questions. If I don’t answer, leave a message!

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT!!
Because this is Mother’s Day weekend, we are going to cancel our Saturday workshop. We will make our One Block Wonder in June. Watch for more details.

05/05/2026

When scheduling our workshop for this Saturday, May 9th, it never occurred to me that it is Mother’s Day weekend. We can still meet IF there are at least 5 people coming! Otherwise, we will wait until next month. Please let me know if you are planning on attending!

Meet Laura Stickland!
She is the owner and sole designer at Orange Blossom Studios in East Moline, Illinois. Fortunately for us, she is good friends with our own Annie McHugs (aka Jerriann Massey)! While visiting in Texas, she will be speaking to the Christian Quilt Guild in Tyler on Thursday, May 7th. Laura has graciously agreed to come speak to our guild meeting on Monday,
May the 4th! She will be giving a presentation with a trunk show as well as a pop-up shop! How lucky are we to have a nationally known speaker!! Let’s make her feel welcome.

Guild Meeting Information:
Monday, May 4th at 6 pm (We will be starting promptly at 6:15 to give Laura plenty of time.)
Emory Baptist Church, Memorial Hall

Since we will have a special guest, you are welcome to bring cookies or other
snacky items. The guild will provide small water bottles.
Workshop Information:
Saturday, May 9th, 9 am

Several of us traveled to the Tyler Quilt Show. The question came up “Is it a “One Block Wonder Quilt, or is it a Stack & Whack?” What’s the difference??

Well come find out! At this month’s workshop we will be making a “One Block Wonder.” In June, we will work on a “Stack & Whack.” There is a difference!

For May workshop, please bring the following:

Lunch - this may take a little while!
Your machine and accessories
Thread
Small iron (if you have one) and ironing mat
Extension cord!

Remember those notebooks we made? On Monday night, Jeannie Thompson will be leading us in making an accessory for those notebooks!

You will need:
2 nine inch squares (matching or different) that will coordinate
with the cover you made for your notebook
1 piece of elastic (1/2 inch by about 18 inches). Fold over
elastic works well if you have that.
Sewing machine, thread, notions, EXTENSION CORD

Saturday workshop:
We will be making Twisted Pole tablerunners. In addition to
your sewing machine, thread, notions and extention cord, you
will need the following:

Red 10 inches (We will be cutting WOF - width of fabric)
Blue 1 yard
White 10 inches (cutting WOF)
Backing 25 X 50 inches
Batting 25 X 50 inches.

You DO NOT have to do red, white and blue! I only listed them so y so you can see where they will be used.

Alyssa Harris will be guiding us as we make our NICU quilts using the ChurnDash pattern. I will link the instructions below.

Please remember, even if you are a pro at the procedures being demonstrated, PLEASE COME! One of the things we hope to accomplish is to encourage our members to share their abilities. It's not always easy to get up and present!!

Here's an update on our NICU blankets. In February we made more using the reverse applique method. Can't wait to see those finished quilts!

February has flown by! We had a great meeting in February. There were a host of special tools shared by our ladies. Some of them we had never seen before! Here are a few. Thread picker, various templates from Martelli, and a couple of different tools to help in making binding.
