🖤 Rest easy, “David Hockey,” a lasting legacy—the art world has lost one of its most distinctive voices.

In loving memory of someone who left this world but will never leave our hearts—though he is no longer with us, his spirit remains…🖤‘.

For more than six decades, David Hockey transformed the ordinary into something extraordinary. Whether depicting the swimming pools of Los Angeles, the rolling landscapes of Yorkshire, or intimate portraits of friends and lovers, his work was defined by an unmistakable sense of curiousity, optimism, and joy.

Emerging from the Royal College of Art, in London in the early 1960s, Hockney quickly became one of the leading figures of British Pop! Art, yet unlike many of his contemporaries, he never stopped reinventing himself. From painting and photography to iPads and digital drawing, Hockney embraced new ways of seeing through-out his career.

His move to California in 1964, marked a turning point. Captivated by the region’s light, architecture, and culture, he created some of the most iconic images of the postwar era, including 'A Bigger Splash' 1967, a work that remains synonymous with the dream of southern California.

Beyond his technical brilliance, Hockey challenged the conventions of perspective and presentation, encouraging viewers to look more closely at the world around them. His art was never simply about what he saw. It was about how we see. Yet, his lasting legacy extends far beyond records and market milestones.

Today we remember him through the thoughts he shared about art, life, beauty, food, love, and his little dog 'Ruby'.

Hockney loved classical music. Wagner was his addiction. He designed opera sets for the Met and Glyndebourne, and worked closely with Stravinsky’s music for decades. When he began losing his hearing, he said it made him “deaf like Beethoven.” He never had music on in the background. He always sat down and gave it his full attention.

We remember him with ‘Beethoven’s 7th Symphony, one of his favourites.

Hockney leaves behind a body of work that changed the visual language of contemporary art and inspired generations of artists, collectors, and viewers to pay closer attention to the beauty of everyday life.
