Memorial Day is a solemn U.S. federal holiday observed on the last Monday of May, dedicated to honoring and mourning the military personnel who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. 🪖🎖

Originally known as Decoration Day, it was established in 1868 following the Civil War to decorate the graves of fallen soldiers with flowers.

Following World War I, the day expanded to honor all American service members who lost their lives in any conflict, not just the Civil War.

Congress passed the Uniform Monday Holiday Act in 1968, which officially declared Memorial Day a federal holiday and moved its observance to the last Monday in May.

Everyone knows how I feel about our shelter, the animals, and especially the people who work there.
Our shelter has wonderful best friends just waiting to be loved.
Our shelter has great great programs like Silver Paws, food banks, low cost spay & neuter and low cost clinics.
Thank you for supporting the shelter as the are a 501C3, so they run on donations.

Education is important to understanding problems and trying to find solutions for them. Ive been talking to engineers who live in our area and have looked at flooding we are experiencing. Starting at the mouth of the main part of drainage and working up allows water to vacate while tide is out.

Our area has some challenges in our future. I will be sharing those challenges and information I've been learning.

The EPD lobby will close today at 11:30AM and will reopen tomorrow at 8:00AM.

In addition, the Volusia Sheriff's Office will be handling calls for service within the City of Edgewater from 11:00AM to 4:00PM. We are incredibly grateful to Sheriff Mike Chitwood and the men and women of the Volusia Sheriff’s Office for stepping in and supporting our city during this time.

Their assistance allows EPD personnel to attend the sentencing hearing for the defendant responsible for the murder of Officer David Jewell. Today is another difficult but important step for David’s family, our agency, and everyone who loved him.

There will be no lapse, interruption, or change in law enforcement service to the City of Edgewater, Florida. Calls for service will continue to be answered and dispatched through the normal channels, and response to emergency and non-emergency calls will remain fully covered during this timeframe.

Thank you for your patience, understanding, and continued support of the Edgewater Police Department and the Jewell family.

They offer part-matching services for leaking faucets or broken cartridges. They carry inventory missing from big-box retailers, spanning plumbing, electrical, well pumps, water treatment, and pond supplies, and now they are offering FREE of charge, my signs. 🚩

During the last two weeks, I have been talking with many business owners in Edgewater about their concerns and challenges. 🪜🪓

I've been educating myself with current codes, laws that have come into effect, and learning about our city, county, & state as a whole.

One message was clear from everyone I talked to. The polarizing has to go, and we need to start back at "This is OUR CITY, OUR FUTURE" and come together.
