Here’s the rundown on our busiest units for May…

🔥 17 WORKING Structure Fires
Seventeen times crews rolled up, stretched lines, secured water, and made a push.

☣️ 64 Hazardous Conditions Calls
Gas leaks, electrical issues, unknowns — the calls where stakes can be high.

🛠 23 Technical Rescue Calls
High‑risk, high‑skill work. Tight spaces, unstable scenes, zero room for hesitation.

🚒 2,937 Total Incidents
And as always, EMS carried the weight — the nonstop grind that never lets up, never slows down, rarely gets the spotlight it deserves.

Another month of our members answering the call with discipline, and professionalism. Shoutout to the members — strong work. 💪😤🔥

🔥 On Friday, some of DFD’s Relief Drivers officially completed the Ladder Academy — our Truck Company Operations school.

The Ladder Academy gives relief drivers the chance to not only learn how to drive and operate our aerial, but to sharpen their full skill set as a Truckie. It’s hands‑on, high‑expectation training built to prepare our people for real‑world Truck Company work.

Some of the skills covered included:
- Forcible Entry — technique, speed, and tool control (smoke filled environments)
- Search — oriented, targeted, and efficient
-Victim Drags— keeping the airways out of heated gases
- Ventilation — coordinated and purpose‑driven
- Single‑Person Ladder Throws — 28ft two section and 35ft two section

Another step forward for one of our own — and another win for the citizens we serve.

DFD × American Red Cross 🔥⛑️

Durham Firefighters don’t just respond to emergencies — we work every day to prevent them 💪.

Did you know one of the core duties of Durham Firefighters is fire safety education and prevention?

Today, our members teamed up with the American Red Cross to canvass Station 4’s primary district — testing, inspecting, and replacing smoke alarms to help ensure Durham residents are protected long before an emergency ever happens.

Prepared communities are safer communities.

This is how we keep Durham safer, one home at a time.
