Some babies are born with their very own umbilical cord scarf!

Nuchal cords: This happens in 1/5 to 1/3 of pregnancies depending on gestation.
Many times babies are able to be birthed vaginally without issue.

Sometimes babies get themselves so wrapped up they are prevented from descending and may need assistance via cesarean section to come earthside.

Wharton's Jelly is a substance found in cords that not only insulates the cord but also protects the vessels inside.

In most instances, you may not be aware of this occuring as many providers just quickly reduce the nuchal cord and continue on, always super cool to show folks pictures of their baby's first scarf though ❤️
