Friday I shared an observation from conversations I've been having with business owners.

Many say they need more leads.

Sometimes that's true.

But often, when we slow down and look a little deeper, the real friction isn't getting people interested.

It's what happens after they are.

A lead comes in.

Life gets busy.

The quote waits.

The follow-up gets delayed.

The opportunity quietly slips away.

This is one of the reasons I'm so fascinated by hidden friction.

The problem we notice first isn't always the problem that's creating the biggest impact.

Sometimes the most meaningful progress comes from asking a different question.

What if the real opportunity isn't getting more leads... but creating a system that helps you consistently care for the ones you already have?

A client told me recently,

“I don’t know what’s wrong with me. By the time I finally sit down to work on my business… I have no motivation.”

At first glance, it sounded like a motivation problem.

But after a few questions, we uncovered the real friction.

She wasn’t trying to do her most important work when she had the most energy.

She was trying to do it after spending the entire day answering questions, solving problems, putting out fires and taking care of everyone else.

By the time she opened her laptop…

Her energy was gone.

The problem wasn’t motivation.

The friction was when she expected herself to do her best thinking.

So we ran an experiment.

Instead of saving strategy work for the end of the day, she protected one hour in the morning before the chaos started.

After 2 weeks of experimenting, she said,

“I don’t know why I waited until the end of the day to do this. This is so much easier.”

That’s why I’m so fascinated by friction.

When something isn’t working, we usually try to fix the symptom.

Sometimes the bigger breakthrough comes from asking a different question.

“What friction is creating the problem I’m experiencing?”
